Pre-Ethernet Broadband

Get your office or site online now while you wait for a leased line. Satellite and 4G/5G connectivity in days, on terms built around your circuit going live.

The gap between moving in and going live

Leased lines take time. Surveys, wayleaves, civils and network build all add up, and lead times of several months are common. The date on the order form is often not the date the circuit goes live.

Meanwhile the business still needs to trade. Staff need email and Teams, tills need payments and the phones need to ring. Pre-ethernet connectivity, sometimes called interim connectivity, covers that gap so the move date does not depend on the fibre date.

Your options

LEO satellite

Fibre-like performance anywhere with a clear sky view. Independent of local mobile signal. Best for sites with more users or heavy cloud use.

Satellite with 4G/5G backup

Our usual recommendation. Satellite carries the traffic and cellular takes over automatically if it drops. Two paths, one router.

4G or 5G broadband

Quick and cost-effective where mobile signal is strong. Ideal for smaller teams, and easy to keep as backup later.

How it works

  1. Tell us the site and dates

Postcode, move-in date, expected leased line date and number of users.

  2. We check coverage

Sky view and mobile signal checked before you commit to anything.

  3. We install and test

Router configured in advance, fitted and tested on site by an engineer.

  4. The leased line goes live

Hand back the kit, or keep it as automatic backup for the new circuit.

We can supply the leased line too

If you have not ordered the circuit yet, we can supply the leased line as well as the interim connection. One supplier managing both means the handover is planned rather than improvised.

Keep it as backup when the circuit arrives

A leased line is fast and reliable, but it is still one cable. Digger strikes, exchange faults and planned works happen. Many customers keep their satellite or 4G/5G connection on the same router as automatic failover, so the investment in the interim service carries on paying back. See backup broadband and failover.

Pricing. Pre-ethernet packages from £TBC per month, minimum term TBC months. See full pricing.

Common questions

What happens if the leased line is delayed again?

It happens often, so we plan for it. Tell us your expected live date and we will agree how extensions work before you order, so there are no surprises.

Will our phones and Teams calls work?

Yes. Hosted VoIP and video calls work well on LEO satellite and on good 4G/5G signal. We size the package for the number of people on calls at once.

How many users can it support?

It depends on what they do. A team on email and cloud apps needs far less than a team uploading large files. We size the package from the details you give us.

Can we use it in a building we do not own yet?

Usually, yes. A satellite dish may need landlord permission, and a 4G/5G router with an internal or window antenna can often avoid that. We will advise on both.
