Bonded Connectivity
Combine 4G, 5G and satellite links into one faster, more resilient connection that keeps working when any single link drops.
Several links, one connection
Bonding takes two or more connections, for example two 4G/5G SIMs on different networks and a satellite link, and combines them into a single connection. Traffic is spread across all of them at once and recombined by a bonding service in the network.
The result is more bandwidth than any one link can give, and a connection that carries on when one of the links fails.
Bonding compared with failover
| Failover | Hot-swap backup | Bonding | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Links in use | One at a time | One, with the backup kept live | All at once |
| Speed | Speed of the active link | Speed of the active link | Combined speed of all links |
| When a link drops | Short break while it switches | Near-instant switch | Sessions carry on |
| Cost | Lowest | Low | Higher |
Where bonding makes sense
- Sites that need more bandwidth than a single 4G/5G link provides
- Live streaming, broadcast and events where a dropped session is not acceptable
- Critical sites with no fixed line
- Vehicles and mobile units that move between coverage areas
Pricing. Bonded connectivity from £TBC per month. See full pricing.
Common questions
Can you bond satellite with 4G and 5G?
Yes. Mixing satellite and cellular gives two completely different routes, which is the most resilient combination.
Does bonding double the speed?
Close to the combined total in most cases, though some capacity goes on managing the bond. We size the links for the speed you need.
